As soon as you enter Mġarr Harbor, while you were still on the ferry, you will notice that some of the welcoming landmarks of the port village of Għajnsielem, up the hill: Chapel of Lourdes with its sharp bell tower and Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes, Fort Chambrai on the left hand side overlooking the cliff and, further away, the towering bell tower of Għajnsielem Parish Church.
The name Għajnsielem means "a quiet spring" and came from the spring water around which, in 1700, Grand Master Perellos built a portico containing public washbasins and fresh water showers.
A visit to Għajnsielem should start with Mġarr Harbor and fishing village, followed by the small church of Our Lady of Lourdes from where, especially at sunset, there is a beautiful view of the port.
The 18th century Fort Chambrai was designed to be the Valletta of Gozo but never had far away. From outside the walls, there are breathtaking views of the southern cliffs of Gozo, Xatt l-Aħmar and the northern channel of Comino. A winding road leads Xatt l-Aħmar Bay and Marr and there are good walks along the cliff tops.
At the center of the village stands the majestic parish church, a Lombard-Gothic style shrine dedicated to our Lady of Loreto. Also nearby is the old parish church and the mysterious "Pjazza tad-Dehra" (Square of the apparition) where it is believed that the Madonna spoke to an Anglu Grech, a local pastor.
Also worth a visit to the old Franciscan convent and Church of Sant’Antonio of Padua and the area around the convent is wonderfully peaceful and blessed with fabulous views over the Gozo canal - particularly beautiful early in the morning or at sunset.
IN OUR B&B:
the bathroom is shared and therefore cleanliness and hygiene are required with respect to the other guests in the structure. Our facility is located in a quiet place, near the port of Gozo and public transport agencies. We offer at an additional cost the return transfer service from Luqa Malta airport or from the port of Valletta Malta to our hotel in Ghajnsielem Gozo always at an additional minimum cost we offer lunch and dinner or one of two meals of your choice while colazine is included in the price and we offer the tasting service for the fantastic and famous island of comino where the movie Laguna Blu was filmed with lunch at a very low and competitive price. Maximum hygiene is required for shared spaces, such as the bathroom, the relaxation area and the dining area, breakfast and kitchen, the hair dryer is shared, located in the bathroom and once used it must be stored in its own place, the washing machine can be used at an extra cost of only 2 euros, we ask you to use the air conditioner carefully and not leave it on for the whole day or night otherwise an extra cost will be applied.
