Property Description

Gorgeous 1861 home w/patio; by Main Street and bike trails.

This historic 1861 home with an attached cottage (available to rent separately) invites you for your next Cape Cod stay. It features six bedrooms and six bathrooms. If you're looking for lodging for a family reunion, wedding party, business retreat, holiday celebration with friends, or other special occasion, this house is a fantastic way to keep everyone under the same roof.

Located in the village of Falmouth, the house is a short stroll from Main Street restaurants and shops. Walk about 200 yards to the Shining Sea Bikeway trail that reveals beaches, wetlands, and ocean vistas. Bring provided beach chairs to the beach with views of Martha's Vineyard. For a history lesson, visit Museums on the Green to learn more about prominent faces of Falmouth, including the Lawrence family, one of Falmouth’s most prominent families in the 1800s.

Built in 1861 by whaler Captain Tom Lawrence for his family, this property is listed on the National Historic Register. Well-maintained, the home blends New England tradition with Old World warmth and charm. You'll feel right at home with modern comforts like WiFi, cable TV, air conditioning, and a gas fireplace, while the pleasant creaking sounds of the 155-year old home reminds you that you're on a special vacation.

This listing includes the six-bedroom, six-bathroom main house, though you can also look into booking the one-bedroom Captain's Cottage or both the Captain's Cottage and the Historic Whaling Captain's Home together.

Outdoors, gather around the furnished patio to fix corn and fresh seafood on the gas grill. At dusk, head inside to the sitting rooms with your wine and conversation. Board games will busy guests who want to stay up all night, while books throughout the home will occupy guests who love curling up with a good story. There's also a lovely patio.

Wake up the house with a home-cooked breakfast to enjoy in the dining room. The kitchen provides the tools you need to make great meals. There's even a waffle iron for the ambitious.

On the lower level is the former parlor of the house, which now has a king bed and an attached bathroom for your privacy, making this a lovely room for the grandparents or the bride and groom. The second lower-level bedroom has an impressive four-post queen bed and a petite bathroom.

Up the winding staircase are four more bedrooms: two rooms with king beds, one room with a single queen, and a room with two queens. Each bedroom has a TV, and there are six full bathrooms for nearly half of the house to have their own privacy around the same time.

You're in a central location to branch out and explore. Walk down Main Street and see even more stately homes, churches, and public houses. Take the ferry to Martha's Vineyard. Traverse the whole arm of Cape Cod with a day trip to Provincetown and back to explore the many shops, sights, and sounds of the area.

Whatever you're visiting Massachusetts for - a family wedding, reunion, business, history, or curiosity - the Captain's Home is an ideal haven for a true New England experience.

Dogs are sadly no longer allowed, as people have allowed their dogs in our furniture and left them alone in the house.

*Please note that there is an attached cottage available to rent separately, so you may see or hear other guests from time to time. Please be courteous and keep your noise levels to a minimum. Thank you!
