Property Description

This historic California bungalow was built in 1911 and is perched on a double lot a block from beautiful Drake Park and downtown Bend. George Palmer Putnam (Putnam Publishing) had the home built for Dorothy Binney (heiress of Crayola Crayons), his first wife. After leaving Bend, Putnam became Amelia Earhart's promoter and later, her husband.
When built, the living room was the largest room in Bend and in the early years it was used for church services, town meetings and social gatherings. It has four spacious bedrooms (3 king size beds and 1 queen), a large dining room with separate fireplaces in the dining and living rooms. The front porch becomes the favorite spot in warm months, tucked under an ancient ponderosa pine, a perfect place for a glass of wine with friends. It overlooks the tiered yard and has views of Drake Park with Mirror Pond beyond. The large kitchen/family room is stocked with great cooking gear and has a full pantry.
A couple blocks away is the public library as is Mcmenamin's, with its soaking pool and movie theater. You'll enjoy walking a block into town to find many wonderful restaurants, boutiques, and specialty shops. This downtown location is near The Old Mill district with more restaurants, shops and a Regal movie theater. It is also near the iceskating rink, the take out spot for floating the Deschutes River and numerous brew pubs.
